New MTV Docuseries White People Set To Launch July 22 (TRAILER)

Netflix

Thanks to MTV, a full court press designed to force millennial whites to face (self-loathe) their whiteness is scheduled to debut on July 22.

(Mic.com) MTVs new docuseries White People has one hell of a name. Its the kind of title that will prove incendiary in 2015 no matter the content. Judging from the first trailer, the show itself will prove just as controversial, if not more so.

The series features white people from across the country talking about race in America. Some of the things they say are enlightened statements on privilege. Others are fears that theyll be labeled a racist.

To MTVs credit, from the trailer, the series doesnt seem to be taking one side or another. It doesnt judge its participants for telling the truth, but it doesnt support the white woman saying she feels like [shes] being discriminated against.

The docuseries is produced in part with, and hosted by, Jose Antonio Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. […]

As promised the trailer for MTVs White People’:

When discussing White People on Twitter host Jose Antonio Vargas is all over the map.

We rarely discuss whiteness. ORLY? How does one unpack whiteness without discussing whiteness?

But…empathy.

Jose subtweets this tweet and responds…

…with zero empathy.

The undistinguished host of White People posted a synopsis on Facebook:

We cannot have an honest conversation about race in America until we explore and unpack what whiteness and white privilege mean in America. This is not an easy, simply or comfortable conversation. So lets get uncomfortable. Lets talk.

Thats the goal of White People, a documentary project produced by MTVs Look Different campaign in collaboration with Define American and Punched In The Head Productions.

The TV special will air on July 22nd at 8 p.m. ET. And I will continue the conversation on Emerging US, a digital magazine on race, immigration, and identity; one of the magazines sections will be called White People.

Hooray White Peoplesegregated off into a special section! Wait…what?

Gah. Double gah. So much for Joses claim that he is not interested in making films that are left/right or liberal/conservative. Not that I bought it.

Id conclude by saying that there are some POC who would love nothing better than to erase whiteness entirely and to spread white guilt throughout the land, so that they can finally love themselves for who they are, but that might be perceived as racist. So Ill refrain from doing so.
