Puppy Nearly Euthanized Due To Cleft Palate Wins Vet’s Heart – And A Second Chance At Life

Netflix

This little chocolate bean’s name is Bronson. Unlike his eight other litter-mates, Bronson was born with a birth defect: a cleft palate.

Depending on the severity of the cleft, puppies born with them usually do not thrive. The space in the roof of their mouth does not allow them to suckle properly, and they eventually die of starvation.

So his human family decided to euthanize him instead of letting him suffer.

One of the vet techs in his clinic, Imgur user KaffeKalle, was won over by the little nugget’s obvious cuteness and teeny size (he was smaller than a chocolate milkshake!) and agreed to foster the pup for a few days.

Who wouldn’t have jumped at the opportunity to take this tiny dude home??

Her cat, Quinn (whom she calls the “Spawn of Satan”), took a particular liking to the tiny ball of fur she took home. KaffeKalle said it broke her heart to tell the cat her new playmate might only live for less than two weeks.

Bronson’s condition made mealtime especially challenging: KaffeKalle had to feed Bronson via a tube religiously every 1-2 hours for one week.

This was when the vet tech started to think that her little guy might actually survive. She took him with her to work every day so that she could continue to tube-feed and stimulate him every couple of hours. Seeing that she worked at a veterinary clinic, it was the perfect arrangement!

As the chocolate-colored furball continued to grow stronger in the following weeks, KaffeKalle couldn’t help but fall in love with him. As a foster mom, she failed, absolutely and miserably — because she ended up adopting the little guy!

But as an animal lover, she won a hundred gold stars for “Most Lovingest Hooman”.

Because he loved eating EVERYTHING in sight, she had to train one eye to point at the puppy’s direction at ALL times. Sometimes it got so bad, the naughty pup had to be sedated in order to remove all the stuff he stuck up his cleft.

Does this look like the face of someone who cares if he could choke to death from getting ear plugs jammed on the roof of his mouth??

KaffeKalle/Imgur

No. The little bugger’s sole purpose in life was to act all adorable.

Which he obviously did really well.

Bronson could charm the pants off anyone…; even a shoe-wearing pony.

Exactly one year after his mum first met him, Bronson underwent surgery to have his palate stitched closed. This meant he could live a normal, happy dog life for the rest of his existence.

His proud momma said, “My heart is completely f*cking his, and my husband is obsolete at this point.” Sad for the husband, but who can blame her?
